What I didn’t like about a TV stand is that I found them such heavy, bulky pieces of furniture that occupied too much floor space in my bedroom.

My mother gave me as a gift a classic TV table made of hardwood. It had a shiny finish that neatly showed the wood grains which was its most appealing feature. But since it was made of solid wood, it was quite heavy to move about specially when I needed to clean the bedroom area. With the TV on top of it, the entire thing made it twice as heavy. It was however, very durable and stood decades of time. My mother had that table for twenty years and several house transfers before she decided to give it to me. Today it still looks as sturdy as ever, with its youthful life restored with an application of an effective wood furniture polish.

Nowadays, although TV tables are made of various lightweight materials like glass, metal and light wood, nothing beats the TV table I have at home. It still has that 70s retro charm about it with its design and I’m sure my TV safely sits on top of it without easily falling off.
